Three steps to getting what you want

I’ve been pondering a lot recently about how to get what you want. I think it’s pretty simple (although let’s not confuse simple with easy).

In my mind there are three steps:

1.    Work out what you want (vision)

2.    Work out the best way to get what you want (strategy)

3.    Do the work to get what you want (implementation)

Most of us spend too much time and energy on step 3 and nowhere near enough on steps 1 & 2.

(I think the process should actually be circular, not linear … so when you make progress towards what you want you then go back to step 1 and say, is this really what I want? Is this really the best way to get it? And so on).
