On designing a beautiful life

My friend Jaci Foti-Lowe knows a bit about design. She’s an architect by training and has spent decades curating great design for her well-known furniture and lighting business, Hub.

She says that great design is hard. And that God is in the details.

I love that. God is in the details. Not the devil is in the details.

That’s what makes it hard. You have to get the big picture right … and then you have to work and work and work on the details.

I think designing a beautiful space is a great metaphor for designing a beautiful life. It’s hard to design your life. Much easier to follow someone else’s plan for what you should do with your hours and days than design it yourself.

But the rewards for doing the work, taking responsibility, designing a conscious life, and then living it? You get a shot at living a beautiful life.
