My good friend Gigi wrote a great piece on this yesterday. It’s definitely in the Zeitgeist at the moment.
My counsel on this, whichever side of the debate you are on, is to make it a decision, not part of your identity.
There is not the same charge around a decision when someone else has made a different one. I chose English breakfast tea. You chose Earl Grey. Meh …
(Although I have to say I’ve never really understood the whole Earl Grey thing).
On the other hand, I’m an Essendon supporter. That’s part of my identity. No amount of evidence is going to change my mind on that (as the last decade clearly proves). And if you’re a Carlton supporter, well, we may have a problem.
You get to choose what you make part of your identity, and what is just a decision you’ve made.
Choose wisely.
