On stunt planes and being present

This is me a few years ago, (and with a bit more hair), when my friend Andrew took me up in his stunt plane.

We were sitting in the plane when he gave his version of the safety announcement. It was a bit different to the one we’re used to.

There was nothing about what to do if I dropped my phone in the seat. Or about counting rows to the exit.

It was more along the lines of which cord to pull to activate the parachute I was wearing. And what order we’d jump out of the moving plane if we needed to evacuate (he would go first, I’d go second). And where to jump from to avoid the wing and the tail.

Fair to say I was paying a bit more attention than I usually do. In fact, Andrew had 100% of my attention.

It got me thinking. What if we didn’t need the stakes to be that high to put 100% of our attention on what’s happening in front of us? To be completely present with whoever we’re with?

That would be something.
