On lesson design

My friend and one of Australia’s leading experts on education, Adam Voigt  – you may remember him from such shows as The Project and Sunrise – gave me some great advice recently.

He said that before teaching a lesson the teacher should know what she wants the students to think about and do during the lesson, and how she wants them to be by the end of the lesson.

I think this applies as much to teaching adults as it does to children.

Straight after talking to Adam I was running a money mindset webcast for Thought Leaders Business School students. I took his advice, and shared at the start of the session that we would:

  • Think about our relationship to money;

  • Do some work on changing our beliefs; and

  • Hopefully be a little less dysfunctional around money by the end of the session.

If you teach adults or kids in any context, I reckon this is a really useful filter to run over a session before you begin.
