We did a cull of Ami’s wardrobe over the weekend.
The stuff she’s outgrown or doesn’t like is enough to clothe a village.
Ami loves clothes … she wants to be a fashion designer (or an architect, or a mermaid … those are the three options currently on the table). She also loves an op shop, and gets hand-me-downs from her sister and a couple of other good friends.
But clearly this is ridiculous for a 7-year old child.
And it’s a good reminder that there’s a point where more stops being better. (That point could be called enough).
I think when you buy a thing (as opposed to an experience) you pay for it three times. You pay to buy it. You pay to own it (in physical space, head space, and possibly maintenance and repairs). And then you pay to dispose of it. And generally, we underestimate the cost to own and the cost to dispose.
It’s a good reminder for myself to think twice about the next thing I want to buy.
