Having fun

Big election coming up this weekend. Our home school is voting on the name for our school, and the positions of school captain and kindergarten captain are both up for selection. (I might be a bit biased, but I reckon both my daughters have a shot at getting elected.)

The nominations for the name of the school so far include:

  • School for Learning, Playing and Fun

  • Super School for Fun

  • Scully School (nope … no idea where that came from)

  • Imagination School

  • Rainbow Sky School

  • Dragon Flame School

I think there is something in Scarlett’s first suggestion – School for Learning, Playing and Fun. I reckon we learn better if we’re having fun.

If everyone is feeling worried or scared, and you’re trying to teach or lead, it probably won’t go that well. You need to get people smiling first.

One idea that I heard from someone in our community (apologies, I’ve forgotten who) is to ask everyone at the start of the meeting about what’s working. What’s great at the moment? What are the silver linings? Much better than … where are you? (At home, we know.) Or, how are you doing? It’s one way to get people smiling.

Having said that, my vote is going to be for Dragon Flame School. Who wouldn’t want to go to Dragon Flame School? I think if that gets up I’ll start attending just so I can put it on my LinkedIn profile.

Eltham College, Melbourne University, Dragon Flame School. Has a certain ring to it.
