The last seven days have been, without doubt, the craziest week of my life.
Last Wednesday Trish left Buenos Aires for a quick trip to Spain (of all places) to watch her cousin play a piano concert and to sign the final piece of paperwork for her Spanish citizenship. (Which now feels reminiscent of Gilligan setting off on a three-hour tour … a three-hour tour.
On Friday she scrambled to get out of Spain before they shut their borders and caught the last plane out to London. On Saturday she flew 35 hours to get back to Buenos Aires via Dubai and Rio de Janeiro. Landed on Sunday night and was turned back at Immigration. The policy in Argentina had changed while she was in the air.
She then flew 35 hours back to Melbourne (again via Rio and Dubai) to begin her 14 days in isolation.
And now 7 days after Trish left for Spain, the girls and I are also flying back to Australia. Our Argentinian adventure is over for the foreseeable future. What a week.
The thing is, I am sure you have had your version of this week too. As has everyone you’ve met. I think the majority of us have probably had the craziest week of our lives. The world today is almost unrecognisable from the world seven days ago. And I can’t imagine what it will be like in a week or a month.
If the person in front of you has probably had the craziest week of their life, and they are (probably) experiencing uncertainty and fear, I think the best thing we can do is to be kind.
Be safe, and be kind. Most importantly, be kind to yourself.
